A bit about…

sam hartigan

I am a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) and member of Speech Pathology Australia (MSPA) who lives and works in the beautiful Sutherland Shire, south of Sydney. I hold a BA (Hons) in German Studies from the University of Warwick (UK), and a Master of Speech Pathology from Charles Sturt University.

Growing up I was always passionate about learning languages, and my goal was to become a true polyglot and learn as many languages as my brain could handle! Having previously worked in IT project management, I embarked upon a career change several years ago when my bright young daughter struggled to learn to read in Kindergarten. Once I discovered just how many kids there were who needed extra support with their literacy skills, I felt compelled to do something to help.

Through my studies and personal experiences, I have developed a passion for helping children and young adults with speech, language, literacy and social communication difficulties, and feel honoured to work with all my wonderful clients and their families.

In my spare time, I enjoy travelling with my husband and two beautiful daughters, hanging out with my foodie friends, and listening to science podcasts as I walk my exuberant dog, Lulu.

My Approach

It all begins with building the relationship. This is ultimately the foundation from which I can help the client achieve their goals. I take the time to get to know my clients and their families in order to build a connection and, importantly, trust. I get to know their likes, dislikes, interests and hobbies, and what makes them smile. Then, after gathering information from the client, their family and assessment data, I work closely with them to formulate a plan to help them overcome their challenges and achieve their goals.

Safety is not the absence of threat… it is the presence of connection.”
